Super Mario Run lands on iOS

The side-scrolling, endless-runner videogame Super Mario made its debut on iPhone and iPad. This release marks Nintendo's first major smartphone launch, following the success of Pokemon Go, a release that Nintendo held a minor stake in. The app is free to try but requires a purchase of £7.99 or $9.99 in the US. The download costs 370MB and requires a constant online connection whilst playing, a decision that has courted some controversy. This launch marks the first time Nintendo's iconic mascot has appeared on a non-Nintendo branded device and will pave the way for future smartphone releases from the company, including a new entry to Animal Crossing series. As per the recent data by App Annie, Super Mario Run was downloaded over 10 million times worldwide on the day of its launch. That is 10 times the amount Pokemon Go managed in its first day.
