Mattel has appointed Margaret Georgiadis – the ex-president of Americas at Google as the company’s chief executive officer, with effect from Feb. 8.

Georgiadis will succeed Christopher A. Sinclair, who has led the company as chairman and CEO since early 2015. Sinclair joined Mattel’s Board in 1996 and has in past served as independent lead director and chair for the executive and audit committees.

Moving forward, Sinclair will now serve as executive chairman of the board.

Prior to joining Mattel, Georgiadis served as president of Americas at Google from 2011-2017. Under her leadership, she led the company’s commercial operations and advertising sales in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. Her prior roles at Google included leading global sales operations and expanding local and commerce businesses.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors of McDonald’s and Amyris. She also serves on the boards of non-profits including The Economic Club of Chicago and the Ad Council.

“Mattel has seen a tremendous turnaround under Chris’ leadership and the company is well-positioned for the future. On behalf of the board, I want to thank Chris, his management team and all Mattel employees for their efforts,” says Michael J. Dolan, independent lead director, Mattel.

“We are delighted that Margo has agreed to lead the team as CEO. Her leadership experience at Google and elsewhere, coupled with her proven ability to foster innovation and build partnerships on a global scale, makes her ideally suited to accelerate Mattel’s growth in the coming years,” Dolan added
